Members only, after midnight

Open when the
city isn't.

A room in Sofia for the ones who work while it sleeps. Mastering engineers, darkroom printers, writers past their deadline. You already know if this is for you.

A ward is the shape a key has to match. Match it, and the door is yours.

You are let in, not shown around.

Three rooms

There is no host and no tour. Find the room that fits the work, take a chair, and start. The rooms keep different hours because the work does.

The Listening room

Seats 600:00-06:00

A treated room, one good pair of monitors, and a chair placed exactly where the mix is true.

Bring a reference. Play it loud once, at the hour when no neighbour can object.

The Darkroom

Two stations00:30-05:30

Two enlargers, fibre and resin, chemistry kept at temperature by someone who cares that it is.

The safelight stays on until the last print is fixed. Wet prints hang where you left them.

The Writing room

Nine desks00:00-06:00

Long tables, low lamps, a rule of silence that the room enforces better than any sign.

The thing that is late is welcome here. So is the coffee that keeps it moving.

The key turns for three kinds of people.

No waiting list theatre, no reference letters. You state your craft, you pay your dues, the lock accepts you or it does not. Prices are printed because hiding them is its own kind of rudeness.

Night

1 night

40 lvper night

For the visitor, the deadline week, the friend of a member.

One room, one night, paid at the door in cash or by nod.

Resident

Every night

180 lvper month

For the regular. Every room, every night, a locker with your initials filed in.

The night porter learns your order and stops asking.

Patron

Every night, and then some

90 EURper month

For the one who keeps a light on for others. A key that opens the back rooms too.

You may bring three guests a month and name one night a year your own.

Five things, and only five.

A club is mostly its rules, so we keep ours short enough to remember at four in the morning.

  1. Knock. We open for the knock, never for the name.

  2. Whatever you make here is yours. Whatever you overhear here was never said.

  3. Phone calls happen outside, like smoking used to.

  4. The last drink is poured at half five. The last word is yours.

  5. Leave the way you came in: quietly, and without explaining.

What is happening while you are awake.

Nothing is compulsory. Mark the ones you want held; a held seat is a promise the room keeps quiet about.

The room stays silent. The coffee does not.

The bar keeps it short.

Six things, honestly sourced, poured or plated by someone who is also awake against their better judgement.

  • Rakia, Troyan plum

Distilled by someone's uncle in 2019. Served cold, in silence.

  • Negroni, stirred long

A gin from Karlovo, Campari, sweet vermouth. Thirty seconds of stirring, not ten.

  • House red, whatever is open

Whatever the cellar felt like tonight. Ask, or trust it.

  • Bread and butter, salted

The baker two doors down leaves it warm at midnight.

  • Yellow cheese, cut thick

From the Rhodope, aged well past polite.

  • One boiled egg, and pepper

For the ones who forgot dinner again.
